The new Peabody-Essex

The P-E Museum has done it again, re-inventing itself to marvelous effect, creating very interesting environments for their collection, and making it all fun to view.  Susan and I drove up last Friday, and really enjoyed the new wing, especially with all the Asian art they can now display.
This is a long blog, but I hope you find something you like.  A lot of the photos are just details I particularly like.

"View of the Town and Bay of Smyrna" 1829

And the following is from the Marine Hall, with some favorites re-exhibited,
and a huge amount of new material which had long been in storage.

Another view of the connecting hall.

And into the Asia exhibit

The third floor of the new wing is devoted to fashion.  And what a fabulous exhibit it is.

And a new garden.

An exhibit of works by Hans Hofmann:
"The Nature of Abstraction"
Some of the works were just a blaze of violent color,
and I loved many of them.

Sorry, I really loved this but I've lost the title.

"Table with Teakettle, Green Vase and Red Flowers"
(Still life-Two Green Vases) 1936

"Apples" about 1934

"Studio" 1947

"Exaltment" 1947

"Idolatress No. 1" 1944

"Rubesse A beautiful Variety of Rock Crystal"  1963

"Mecca" 1961

I apologize for not noting this exhibit title, but it was, basically a room that
changed color while you sat.  Not really very creative, but fun for selfies.
