Hummingbirds, Blog 2, Susan and Doug in Costa Rica

Our trip from San Jose to Savegre Lodge took us to Cartago, to Paraiso Quetzal Lodge for lunch, and into the cloud forest of San Gerardo de Dota.  At lunch, we sat and ate amid a cloud of hummingbirds. Here are a few shots from many, many attempts.

Driving through San Jose, several beautiful churches.

Cartago Cathedral

Ruins of Santiago Apostle Church, in Cartago.  This immense church was begun, and then construction
came to a halt after an earthquake.  It would have been the largest church in Central America.

Female Volcano Hummingbird, found only in Costa Rica and Western Panama.
All of these were photographed at lunch, at Paraiso Quetzal Lodge at
Soda y Mirador Cinchina

One of my favorites, the Green Violet-ear.  Seen often, still striking.

Either a female display, or a male threat?

I am not sure what this is.  I'll check with Marino.
