and more @$%&$@!%! snow!

Really historic storm.  Feb. total, having stood since records began, has been surpassed by 15".
Not a lot of happy campers, including yours truly, who likes to get out and walk.  A lot of ice dam damage at Oak Point, fortunately we have had one a little bit as yet.   And another storm on the way, but even if it is only two or three inches, it will really be burdensome.  Here are some pictures from this morning.

Taken  last night as I loaded the bird feeders.  We have had about 50 Junkos,
5 or 6 Blue Jays, 5 or 6 Cardinals, sparrows, and a regular visit from a Carolina Wren!

The path dug to the  feeders from the deck.  Bird seed is in the trash bins.

And, the next morning, again with the shoveling.

I can still find it beautiful (do I hear screams of laughter?)

Good example of the 40-knot winds from last night.

Looking out of our garage door.  The guys who plow have done the most
incredible job, under superhuman conditions.  And it was -3 last night,
wind chill at about 30 below.

More snow, Duxbury beach frozen

A blog for a frozen, snowy time.




Canada Geese (there were perhaps 200 on the lake near the Monponsett Restaurant.

On these frigid nights, the moon is spectacularly clear. 

We have five or six Blue Jays dominating our feeders

A trip to Duxbury Beach in -3, wind chill about -20. 

And following our blizzard, 2 more feet today.

Snowy again

I drove to Duxbury Sunday evening, anticipating that with the blizzard arriving on Tuesday it might be a while before I can get out.  But what a thrill, even after last year's invasion, and this year's appearances, to come across a Snowy Own, sitting on a fence post 40 yards from the road, still looking absolutely beautifully majestic, observing you with those mystical yellow eyes, almost disdainful of your admiration. What was wonderful was seeing his eyes so fully open, even in the disappearing light.  Now if, someday, I can photograph him flying towards me!  Someday.

Walks in the woods

Both the Strier Conservancy and the Pratt farm are wonderful place to walk, and even though there isn't a lot to photograph, there is still pleasure to be had.
