SNowy Owl at Plum Island

In hopes of getting a better Snowy shot, up this AM at 5:00 to drive to Plum Island to meet with Rich Reynolds, and hopefully get closer to one.  Disappointing in that most of the refuge was closed and unplowed, leaving very little to explore.  I did get one shot of one, but he flew off while still being about 200 yards away. Just three photos.
Beautiful morning, almost a warm 40 degrees, no wind.

and here he is!

Snowy again

Ah Ha!  A little better.  Closer and Closer.  A friend just sent me some knock-down gorgeous photos of  a Snowy up on Plum Island.  These don't compare to his yet, by any means, but I am getting closer. Duxbury Beach today, with Susan as witness.

Dad at Upperville, Jackson and Oliver

After going on the Aeolian-Skinner website, and tracking down the info on Upperville, VA. it turns out that that organ had a three-manual console.  so I am pretty sure this must be Mars Hill College Dan is trying out.

This is a poster I have made up for a friend to hang in his office.

Snowy Owl!

After reading reports of many Snowy Owls at Logan, I drove to Duxbury Beach this AM, and spotted this immature one about 300 yards away, much too far for much detail, but I will go back and hope to get a really clear shot.  Meanwhile, here's proof that they exist on Duxbury Beach now!
I'll go back all winter in hopes of getting closer.  But he was so great in the spotting scope.

Colors

I put together a collection of photos I took mostly in Falmouth back in Oct. and Nov. . and hope you enjoy them.  I hope you like sunsets.

I despaired of seeing much color this fall, but there were some beautiful trees here and there.
This was on the Falmouth Common

This remarkable photo is my twin, Don (in front as usual) and I
probably about 1946 at Uncle Tom and Lois' farm in Hernersonville, NC.
I do remember falling off the horse, and have been afraid of them ever since.

Thanksgiving at Oak Point

A fabulous meal, an Oregon Pinot Noir, Erin's Br. sprouts, pumpkin pie and "Fruit of the Woods" pie, Cheryl's Italian sausage stuffing,  oyster dressing, etc. etc.  and the grandchildren spectacularly well behaved, all combined for a very special Thanksgiving day.

Almost ready

AM, Jackson, Olive and I got up and went to Dave's Diner for breakfast while Ken and Erin slept in.  We went over to Marshfield after breakfast in hope of seeing the Screech-owl, observed the knothole empty, waited for 5 minutes, and then first his "ears" popped up, and then he jumped up in full view.  I set up the spotting scope, and both boys were really excited.

Buffleheads at Duxbury Beach

Thanksgiving day, and I drove early AM to Duxbury Beach (the table is set, the turkey is cooking, and the relatives will arrive at noon, so no guilt).
Beautiful sun, cold, about 30, and just a few shots of some Bufflehead, but my first photos of one flying, so worth the trip.
It's great to have these wonderful little ducks around all winter.
