The Portland Art Museum, part one: David Driskell
A wonderful museum, with a stellar collection all genres, and a great solo exhibition by David Driskell, whom I did not know, but was very impressed. The photos represent about a 5th. of the exhibit.
David Driskell (1931-2020) was a artist, scholar, and professor of art, and is recognized as helping establish African-American art as a field of study, and one of the world's leading authorities on the subject. He was honored by Pres. Bill Clinton with a National Humanities Medal in 2000, and was awarded nine honorary Doctorates.

Perhaps the greatest thing about art is the never-ending astonishment at discovering a new, and brilliant artist you never heard of. And there are so many! |
