Ten Days in Costa Rica.
A lot of blogs with a lot of birds. Please be patient.
Here is the first two days, spent in the 4 acres of gardens behind Bougainvellea Hotel in San Jose.
Flying out over Miami |
Flying over Cuba! A place some day I hope to go birding. |
A view of the gardens from my balcony |
An enormous tree covered in orchids. |
And my first bird photo in CR, a Rufous-capped Warbler |
Tropical Kingbird |
Rufous-naped Wren |
And the real star of the garden,
a Blue-crowned Mot-Mot,
recently renamed the Lesson's Mot-Mot
And a wonderful bird. |
One of the most-seen birds in CR,
the Blue-grey Tanager
Rufous-naped Wren again |
Clay-colored Tanager, the National bird of Costa-Rica
Very non-descript, until you here him sing!
White-eared Ground Sparrows |
An immature Baltimore Oriole |
Swainson's Thrush |
Rufous-tailed Hummingbird.
I chased him around for two days, and finally got a photo.
White-winged Dove |
Probably the most common-sighted bird in CR
Rufous-collared Sparrow
