Heritage's Big Bugs, Rhodys

A beautiful, if chilly, day at Heritage Plantation, to see the Rhodys in full bloom, and to see David Roger's sculptures of huge bugs.  The bugs were indeed huge, and fascinating the crowd of children and adults.  But the color was thrilling as well.

Taken in my front yard before the trip

Yard Walk

Barbara's gifts of flowers are starting to reward.  Here is a brief few shots taken 10 minutes ago, including a wonderful insect (moth?) trying to look like either a bee or a hummingbird. Spectacular, about 1 1/2 inches long.

Here is my own Pink Lady Slipper in the back yard area.

And these were a gift from Barbara

Plum Island

When I left Middleboro this morning at 5 AM it was breaking beautiful, but by the time I arrive in Newburyport, clouds and fog had rolled in and it felt like the temp had dropped 30 degrees.
I took 150 shots, and kept 7, it was that kind of day.  I did take two nice walks, including Hellcat, and saw Yellow Warblers every 100 yards, interspersed with Redstarts and Yellowthroats.
I did see a Merlin and a Wilsons Snipe, but the photos were not good.
Here is what I have.
A Brown Thrasher, who stayed on the road in front of me for half a mile.

This may give an idea of the weather.

Osprey, a long way off

When touched, great puffs of yellow pollen

Northern Kingbird, as neat a bird in dress as can be found, and fearless.

Great Egret at the mud flats.

This shot made the trip worthwhile!

Pratt Farm No. 4, Pink Lady Slippers

A beautiful Saturday, Memorial Day weekend, and Susan walked with me around the pond at Pratt Farm.  A plethora of Pink Lady Slippers greeted us, all along the trail.
What a beauty, about 2 inches long.

The next two photos are for Jack Ricco, who adores Canada Geese.

The first of many on the trail

Perhaps one day I shall discover a few yellow ones.

Strange effect of some bug infestation.

The Buttercups are particularly yellow, as intense as anything in nature

Light, light, light, its all about light.
