I was thrilled we were scheduled to see the Moreau museum. I have loved, admired, and wondered at his work, and hoped to see a good sampling. Well. I don't know where to begin. First of all, the museum had every thing I had ever seen by him, plus hundreds, if not thousands more. It represents an artistic life and creative output to stun the imagination. A few of these works would have been enough to secure a remarkable reputation, but this museum had walls of his unique visions. Yes, not all of it was masterpieces, but there were plenty that were just that. It was the one museum in our visits that I could have spent a great deal more time. There were files and closets full of drawings, smaller paintings, and preparatory work. I remember drawing numbered 30028, a small masterpiece of a drawing of a centaur (see below). And then there is that staircase!
So here is an unforgivably long blog, and it will not be for everybody, but I hope it represents this artist.
