Rancho Naturalista

One of the more famous birding destinations, this lodge is built around the needs of serious bird listers, and has some of the best guides in CR.  We had two guides, including Harry, UK resident in CR, and a wizard at locating birds.

This blog includes birds from Rancho Naturalista, and a private garden and pond Sally new about which was spectacular in the amount of birds that flew in in front of the blind.

Three more pictures left out of the previous blog, these from the restaurant with the
incredible view of a waterfall, and this lovely bird, a Laughing Falcon

We are now at the private pond and garden which Sally managed to procure some time.
and the amount of birds was really rewarding.

Collared Aracari

The rooms were vastly improved over my last visit

It became a routine to meet Gray for coffee at 5:30 AM.

White-winged Dove

White-necked Jacobin, one of the most prolific, and aggresive.

Yellow-faced Grass-quit

A real rarity, the scarlet-thighed Dacnis

Flowers, always flowers

Harry took us to a lake, where the birding was also spectacular.

Snail Kite

Henry knew of a spot to find the Great Potoo!

And, a quick side trip to find a Sun Bittern on the nest.

A Kiskadee insisting on being in the picture

A very cool little bird, the Common Tody-tyrant

Violet-headed Hummingbird

Wonderful sight of a Gray Hawk being harassed by blackbirds

And a final look across the valley on the balcony
