Days 2 and 3, mostly. with again my getting up early, coming back for breakfast with Susan, and off on adventures.
The advantage of early rising. The Yellowstone River, Lamar Valley. |
Arriving at the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone , 6:30 AM |
Probably the most photographed falls in America. And justifiably so.
I had the view all to my self. About 40 degrees. cold.
This photograph made the entire trip worth while. And we haven't even
gotten to the Tetons yet!
A couple at breakfast advised me to travel beyond the Canyon North toward the Tower Falls,
and that I would have the best chance to see a bear. And hear he (or she) was.
And the next day, same spot, but cubs, eating pine cones. |
Black Bears can climb trees, Grizzlies cannot. I carried a can of Bear repellant on every hike. |
A reminder of nature as violent, a Grizzly eating the carcass of a Elk. |
Grey Jay |
Our Cabin, spacious, very convenient to everything we wanted to see. |
And back to the Lower Falls with Susan to see it in full sunlight down the canyon, at "Artist's Point" |
Bighorn Sheep, a great sight. |
And on to Mammoth Hot Springs. There is great one-way drive through here. |
Remarkable formations, always active. |
Susan having a moment of serenity watching the Yellowstone River. |
Young Harlequin Ducks, a rarity in Yellowstone |
The Yellowstone Lake Hotel |
Dinner at the Inn. Susan had Trout, and I had the special,
a "Tommyhawk" Steak, 28 ounces (Oh God, it was good).
