Peabody Essex Museum eshibition: "Asia in Amsterdam"

After taking Jackson to Plum Island, we went to Salem to the Peabody Essex Museum to see the exhibition entitled "Asia in Amsterdam: the Culture of Luxury in the Golden Age".  Now you might wonder what I was thinking, taking a 13-year-old to such an exhibit, but he indulged me, and really enjoyed it (indeed he did, but not as much as the science hands-on later).  But the PEM has done it again, once more proving itself a world-class museum, with a stunning and extensive exhibit well worth the visit from anyone interested in Asian luxury articles and Dutch Art.

His only complaint was that I tried to take a picture of nearly everything.

One of the arts I admire the most,
Lacquer ware

A ludicrously luxurious crib

Ludolf Bakhuizon
"Ships in a Gale on the U before the City of Amsterdam" 1666
The Rose-Marie and Eijk van Otterloo Collection
(I wonder if they are connected to the great Wilhelm van Otterloo, who conducted
the Concertgebouw Orch. of Amsterdam, and wrote a great "Serenade"
for brass, percussion, celesta and harp)

Jan van der Heyden
"View of the Westerkerk, Amsterdam"  1667-70
The Rose-Marie and Eijk van Otterloo Collection

Osias Beert the Elder

A separate exhibit at the PEM dedicated to one room:
Aniha Quayyum Agha
"Intersectrions"
A huge iron cage, lit from within, and casting shadows on all
walls, ceiling, floor.

At the hands-on kids area
A collection of stone shapes to create a mosaic.
Here's my spur-of-the-moment work.
